09. The Pyramid

1 part - 90 minutes - First broadcast: 30.12.2007

The story begins in the seventies, when Wallander has just successfully completed police school. His wife Mona is expecting a child. The couple's best friends, Arne and Ranghild, have also just become parents and the mood is optimistic and excited. Then disaster strikes. During a routine patrol, the young policeman Wallander enters a store. There he discovers the body of the shopkeeper Eric and suddenly finds himself face to face with the perpetrator. Wallander tries to persuade the man to give up, but he tries to flee. Suddenly his best friend Ranghild comes into the store to quickly get something for the baby she left outside in the car. The situation escalates. The man shoots Ranghild and escapes in the commotion, leaving Wallander with his dead girlfriend and her baby Anna. He feels guilty because, in his opinion, he should have shot. A traumatic experience that will haunt him for the rest of his life. Wallander's last case begins with a mysterious plane crash near Ystad. It soon becomes clear that the plane was traveling on behalf of a drug ring in southern Sweden. At exactly the same time, Anna, the now grown-up daughter of the murdered Ranghild, dies of an overdose. The tension rises dramatically when Wallander realizes that the leader of the drug ring is the same man who killed Anna's mother 30 years ago. So he not only has her mother on his conscience, but now Anna as well. Driven by rage and determination, he does everything in his power to finally close the case that has burdened his life for so long.
