10. The white lioness

For days, there has been no trace of the missing teacher Inga Hedeman, who works in the townships of Cape Town. Inspector Wallander, currently in South Africa for a conference, is willingly asked for help by the local police: he is to calm down Inga's husband, the social worker Axel. Wallander's angry compatriot is damaging the police investigation by trying to put pressure on the press. At first Wallander agrees, but after a conversation with Hedeman he starts his own investigations. On a remote farm, the detective finds a necklace belonging to the missing woman and two fingers that did not belong to her.

With the help of his Cape Town colleague Grace Mthembu, he finds out that the severed fingers belong to petty criminal Victor Mabasha. He is now not only wanted by the police: When Wallander tracks him down in a bar, he saves Mabasha from being shot by a masked motorcyclist and gets caught up in a dangerous chase in the townships. Gradually, the Swedish detective realizes that this has long been about more than just a kidnapping.
