06. Mastermind
The day begins with trouble for Detective Wallander and his colleagues: Because the tank on his car has been broken into and pumped dry, Wallander is late for work, as is his friend and colleague Martinsson, who has had all the tires on his car punctured. At the same time, Wallander's daughter Linda and her colleague Stefan are called to the scene of a supposedly dead body - where the severed female skull turns out to be the head of a mannequin. However, when Linda and Stefan investigate a supposed disturbance shortly afterwards, they are shocked to discover a bizarrely murdered woman instead of an arguing couple.
The next morning, Martinsson's daughter has disappeared without a trace, and the bloodstained bedroom leaves little doubt as to her fate. When Linda almost falls victim to a murder attempt a little later, Wallander suspects that all these seemingly mysterious incidents are pieces of a murderous puzzle. While the completely desperate Martinsson disregards all official regulations in order to find out who could have kidnapped his daughter and done her violence, Wallander begins to search just as feverishly for the identity of the unseen opponent, who wants to crown his diabolical game by making Wallander and Martinsson helpless witnesses to the death of their own daughters in a cleverly devised move.
