31. Mordbrännaren

The diagnosis of Alzheimer's is a heavy blow for Kurt Wallander. More than ever, the detective throws himself into work, of which there is more than enough after the release of the notorious arsonist Tommy. The boy returns to the farm of his sister Gunilla and brother-in-law Svante, where a fire breaks out that very night. The outraged citizens of Linby organize a hooliganism against Tommy, only Wallander firmly believes in his innocence. The detective suspects sports teacher Jurina Slavic, whose face has been scarred by Tommy's last arson attack and who obviously wants revenge.

Shortly afterwards, a kiosk in the town burns down and its owner dies in the flames. Evidence at the scene suggests that the notorious pyromaniac has indeed set fire to the building again. The suspected arsonist is beaten up by a mob and taken to hospital seriously injured. Wallander still doesn't believe that the boy is behind the fires, but his work is becoming increasingly difficult. He has to make do with notes and occasionally even loses his bearings. Nevertheless, he finds clues that Tommy is being framed.
